Indiantown was originally constructed by the indigenous Seminole Indian Tribe as a trading post for its people and early settlers of South Florida.
Indiantown is located in southeastern Florida in Martin County about 50 miles from Palm Beach. The population according to the 2000 census is over 5,000.
Indiantown and much of South Florida were severely affected by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. The hurricane caused significant damage to Indiantown and halted construction of the city for many years to come.
